If a Conservative Can't Trust the Pentagon, Who Can They Trust?

Many conservatives dismiss climate change as a conspiracy driven by liberal scientists using false science to ensure their own job security. Well, the US military is a pretty decidedly conservative leaning entity. The Pentagon recently released its own version of a we-better-take-action-on-climate-change-soon-or-future-generations-are-fucked report. Not the United Nations, not the Sierra Club, and not some elite European Institute of Science. The Pentagon.

Some notable quotes:

"Rising global temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, climbing sea levels, and more extreme weather events will intensify the challenges of global instability, hunger, poverty, and conflict. They will likely lead to food and water shortages, pandemic disease, disputes over refugees and resources, and destruction by natural disasters in regions across the globe."

"While scientists are converging toward consensus on future climate projections, uncertainty remains. But this cannot be an excuse for delaying action."

"Politics or ideology must not get in the way of sound planning."

But what does the US military know about science? It only built the atomic bomb and, last I checked, has the most sophisticated technology the world has ever known.

More so, how much evidence do climate change deniers need? Real answer: There isn't enough. Like the anti-vaccine crowd or the birthers, they have long decided where they stand on the issue and no amount of facts or scientific evidence is going to change their minds, damn it. Meanwhile, the Pentagon is calling climate change a “threat multiplier” because it has the potential to exacerbate many of the challenges we are dealing with today – from infectious disease to terrorism.

And at what point do conservatives who aren't climate change deniers -that is, the ones who don't live inside the FOX News bubble- start disavowing the denial crowd and demanding pragmatic, bi-partisan discussion and action planning to best mitigate the impact of climate change?

Or is it just easier to hate Obama?
